Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree of English literature. Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed which was based in Washington DC. She became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. 1981 was the year she began reporting on the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional Correspondent. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell hosted and was panelists on the TV show Meet the Press. She was a member of a panel for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her work to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news issues, such as the weapons control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
